The Pacific Inter Mountain Division News

The 2008 Men's Singles Playdown was completed on Sunday, July, and our PIMD Men's Singles Champion is Tom Burnoski. This completes our team that will represent the PIMD at the October 26-30 USLBA Championships in Sun City AZ as follows:

Women's Pairs Team: Sandy Souza (Rossmoor) - Marie Guterres (SF)
Women's Singles : Pauline DeAssis (Rossmoor)
Men's Pairs Team: Jonathan Burnoski (Berkeley) - Joshua Burnoski (Berkeley)
Men's Singles: Tom Burnoski (Berkeley)

After struggling in the Qualification Round, Tom came back the next weekend to win all 5 games in the Round Robin Final. The last game with John Ogden was close and exciting. John led early but Tom came back the game was tied at 19. John went up 20 to 19 and was holding 2 when Tom finished with 2 to win the end and match.

In other action on Saturday, July 26th, the winners of the *2x2 (Fours)* in Berkley were:

First Place - Ken and Helen Brady and Al and Dorie Mendoza (won all 3 games)
Second Place - Regina and Andre Banares , Mayou Bernard, and Bob Schwartz (2 wins, +11)
Third Place - Tom and Jenny Burnoski and Ann and Pete Knopf (2 wins, +11)
**note - Second and Third was decided by the PIMD tie break formula.

CHANGE OF VENUE FOR MEN'S NOVICE PAIRS AND SINGLES: Due to unavailability of the Richmond On-site TD, Frank Ransome, over the Oct. 4/5 weekend, the venue for these tournaments will be changed. The candidate greens are PALBC, SVLBC AND SJLBC. A notice will be issued after arrangements are finalized.

In their annual interclub rivalry, Palo Alto, playing at home, finally prevailed to win the Cable Car Classic on July 23rd. Here are all the players from both teams. Bonny Turner, President of Palo Alto is holding the trophy, which will be mounted next to the Meat Axe trophy. Yes, Palo Alto beat Berkeley as well this year in that old rivalry.

 

Men's Novice Singles 2008

Final four in mens novice singles Sunnyvale Oct 4th
Joe, Roger, Bud and Sebastian

Bud Birkenseer won out over Sebastian Sciacco in a close tie breaker playoff in the last end. A total field of 12 novices competed in this year's event.
