US Lawn Bowls

Come bowl in the sun and fresh air

The gentle outdoor sport anyone can play. Easy to learn, devilishly difficult to be good. Each day's play gives your body and mind a good work out.

All you need is a flat pair of shoes and a will to get outside to try bowls. Most clubs have free or low cost introductory lessons. Thereafter it is one of the cheapest sports in the country. Typical club memberships run about $100 per year in the USA and very few clubs have green fees.

Regions and Clubs

Find a club near you today and set up an introductory lesson. See Clubs. Then read up on the rules and terminology before you go. See The Game. Many clubs also support social (non-playing) members or spouses, especially for the many social events throughout the year.

P.S. Probably the most inexpensive sport in the country!

Marketing

However successful your local club is there will be a continual need to recruit new members as others age out of the program (even if that is often after age 90!). See these hints and tips for marketing your club. They have all been field tested in US clubs...so we know what works and what doesn't.

Target a very active adult & retiree lifestyle community

Down under in Australia and New Zealand, lawn bowls is simply called bowls, and is played by many folks of all ages, both indoors and outdoors.

But in what other sport can a 75 year old beat a 25 year old? Can women consistently play with men? Are mixed teams the norm? Have an active social side? Require little or no practice?
